A GLOBAL CRUSTAL THICKNESS MAP AT 1x1 deg (currently covers eurasia only) CRUSTAL THICKNESS MAP (eurocrs.map): ------------ This global crustal thickness map is digitized on a 1x1 deg grid. The thickness in Eurasia summarizes values obtained from Ziegler (1990), Blundell et al. (1992), Meissner et al. (1987), Seber et al. (1997), Beloussov et al. (1988), and Li and Mooney (1997). The format is the same as for the sediment map: 360x180 numbers, where the first one is assigned to the cell with midpoint 89.5N 179.5W, then 89.5N 179.5W, aso. The last value corresponds to 89.5S 179.5E. A postscript file of the map is euro.newcrs.ps. (This postscript file only covers a small section of the map). Values are km. A fortran routine to read the map: ---------------------------------- getpoint.f has 2 subroutines, one reads the map and one returns the thickness (in km) at a specific point. (remember that the map goes from -180 to 180 in longitude and from 90 to -90 in latitude). The routine returns zero for cells with no information. On non-UNIX machine, please compile the code using you fortran compiler (e.g. f77 getpoint.f -o getpoint for a UNIX machine with fortran 77 compiler). An executable for UNIX machines is getpoint (please remember to set the binary option during ftp, then type: chmod +x getpoint). Preparing the map for input into GMT: ------------------------------------ There is another fortran routine that creates a file that can be read into GMT (map2gmt.f). Please edit this code and change the following lines: open(8,file='sedmap.map') open(9,file='sedmap.gmt') to open(8,file='eurocrs.map') open(9,file='eurocrs.gmt') On unix machines, simply type: f77 map2gmt.f -o map2gmt map2gmt this sequence reads in eurocrs.map and creates the file eurocrs.gmt.
